Remember the scene in Psycho? Who could forget it! The shower curtains, and that music! Thankfully, Bates Motel is closed… and shower curtains don’t all have that design! Nowadays, shower curtains come in all sorts of colors and designs, and ones to make your bathroom look great. The great thing about shower curtains is that they are easy to hang and they can transform the look of your bathroom in minutes. I once (almost for a joke) hung a pair of shower curtains in my bathroom that I thought were the height of bad taste. (If you like designs with pictures of cherries and cake, stop reading now!) They were a cream color, and had motifs of cherries and cake. They were a gift, and I planned to leave them there only until my husband had seen them and remarked how awful they were.
The first surprise was that he didn’t say they were awful. What he did was remark on how striking they were and how much they transformed the look of the bathroom. At first I thought he was joking. I had been. But when I took a second look at those “awful” shower curtains, I realized I’d missed the point. They really had transformed the bathroom. Not that I fell in love with them or anything. Far from it. But it did bring home to me how easy it was to radically change the look of your bathroom by simply hanging up a piece of material.
I became obsessed with shower curtains, if obsessed is the right word. I think I bought about ten sets over the next few months, and would vary them whenever I wanted a different look to the bathroom. It sure beat having to redecorate.
I still change my shower curtains regularly. A change of shower curtain is especially great when there is a change of season. Light colors for summer, dark and warm for winter. So if you need a quick makeover for your bathroom, then go crazy with the shower curtains. Maybe even try some with cherries and cake. You never know, you may end up loving them!
