Candles, Scented Candles - Seek Quality Over Packaging

by Don Stevens

Scented candles buyers are searching for more than just pretty packaging. Consumers want high quality at a reasonable price.
Scented candles are still one of the top best selling items in the gift industry today. With new candle companies popping up every year the market has become quite competitive. Consumers are left with many choices the next time they pick up their candles. Choices include triple scented, soy wax, wood wicks, pillar candles and scented jar candles.
While most of the market features richly scented pillar or jar candles not all feature soy wax. The benefits of soy include longer burns, cleaner burns, and soy wax continues to please the environmentally conscious consumer. More companies are changing their wax to include soy because of the demand. Palm wax, another natural alternative to parrafin, is also getting more attention because of the snow flake design it leaves on a pillar candle. Lead free wicks have become a thing of the past for most companies, because of the dangers in lead poison.
Packaging has become an important choice when people choose a candle. It’s not enough to have a great scent or color, but the appearance proves to be a key factor when choosing the right candle. However, many companies have changed to upscale packaging, causing consumers to pay more. While some companies choose packaging over quality, consumers can pay double or even triple the retail because of the effect of packaging. It’s become more of a challenge to find the right balance of quality, appearance, and affordability.
When choosing your next candle look for a highly scented soy blend wax that features a lead free wick. In addition to a clean long lasting burn, seek packaging that is simple, but timeless. Some companies will gift wrap candles at no additional cost. When consumers burn their candles, they rarely keep the boxes it came packaged. Compare prices, but keep in mind that you get what you pay for. What may seem an awesome deal may be a horrible candle. Sometimes smaller companies may produce a better product because they are not mass made, remember quality over quantity.
