Heartburn, Stop Heartburn The Natural Way

by Peter Coughlin

I confess that when I start to get heartburn, my first reaction is to reach for the antacids, but you know, there is a better way. This article is all about how to stop heartburn the natural way, and covers what you need to consider if you're considering tackling heartburn without medication.
The first thing we should look at is lifestyle. Lifestyle is a big word and it covers everything from what and when we eat, the type and frequency of any exercise we take, to stress, relationships, smoking and drinking. To stop heartburn the natural way we don't just need to look at food though, but it's where we'll start.
Ok, let's break it down. Over 90 percent of people get heartburn as a result of eating a specific food, and it's not always the same food. Some foods are fine for one person, but very bad for another. Don't worry, all is not lost though. We do have a few well known foods that are generally associated with heartburn and indigestion, and that would be a great place to start in our quest to stop heartburn the natural way.
Foods which are known to cause heartburn and indigestion usually contain a lot of fat or protein and include; * full fat dairy products * coffee and tea * citrus fruits * fizzy drinks You don't need to stop consuming all of these today, but you might want to do a little experimentation and try avoiding them one by one for a few days at a time to see if avoiding any of them can help you stop heartburn the natural way.
In truth, most of us realize exactly which foods will give us heartburn, we just don't like to admit it. But in addition to helping us stop heartburn the natural way, reducing or removing these irritable foods will likely improve your general physical well being too. Stopping heartburn naturally doesn't get much better than that.
Still on the subject of food, your portion size can affect whether you get heartburn. When you eat too much at a time, your body doesn't get a chance to pre-digest food before it reaches your stomach. This means that your stomach has to work overtime, and this can lead to excessive amount of stomach acid being produced, and thus heartburn.
So, if you want to stop heartburn the natural way as far as food is concerned, eat small portions of the right stuff and you'll be rid of heartburn naturally in no time.
