Health, What Should You Know About Foot Ailments?

by Anne Hoston

Our feet often have to take the brunt of our daily lives. This could be anything from being in a job that requires you to be standing all day to running to catch the bus, taxi or even being at someone’s beck and call. Also any type of exercise that places pressure upon our feet can often cause us pain. There are other factors that can give rise to foot ailments.

These ailments are ones that we have heard about and in some cases have. Generally we do not take any notice of these foot ailments until they begin to cause severe pain. When this happens then we go to the doctors where depending upon the condition of our problem we could be referred to a podiatrist or foot doctor.

There are some of us who suffer from ingrown nails. This growth is caused by the nail cutting into the skin around the toe. The main reason for ingrown nails occurring is that the nail has been cut back poorly. Sometimes this leaves a tiny nail spike which then grows into your skin. Also nails with a thick growth and misshapen appearance can also cause ingrown nails.

Warts are also considered as foot ailments. They have a number of different names but they are all the same problem. The growth of warts is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus. The warts can disappear from your feet because your body has developed an immunity to these foot ailments. Warts are contagious and they can spread to other parts of your foot and to the other members of your family, so for this reason it is best not to leave your wart untreated. Heel pains are one of the most common foot ailments. This pain is called Heel Spur Pain. It is caused by the excessive stretching of tissues called plantar fasciitis on the heel of the foot. Plantar fasciitis is a very painful condition. Corns are other foot ailments that can give us some trouble. Corns are growths that form on the bony areas of our feet. They can grow on our toe tops, between the toes and even on our soles. The center of the corns are hard, and this hardness places a pressure on the nerves causing pain. Corns are the result of poor footwear, clawing toes and bad walking posture. Callouses are the last of our foot ailments. These are painful wounds which are the result of pressure and friction being applied to the feet. The callous is nature’s answer to the pain that we have inflicted on our feet. Callouses are a thickening of the skin due to pressure.

All of these foot ailments are treatable by our podiatrists. The problem is that we don’t go and see the podiatrist until these foot ailments are quite painful. At this point simple removal procedures can provide immediate relief for us which is all we want really speaking.
