Aging, Anti-aging Tips

by Ethan Miller

Everyone wants to extend their lives, even a few years is worth the effort it takes to life a health conscious life. Anti aging is becoming big business and a major drive in the medical industry.
The three basic rules of anti-aging medicine are: Don’t get sick, Don’t get old, Don’t die. We have a greater advantage than any society before us. The longer we live, the better chances we have of living longer. Each year we live brings scientists and researchers closer to more cures and anti aging breakthroughs.
Biotechnological advancements are working to optimize your life and achieve a triple-digit lifespan. The first step to a longer life is to find a reputable doctor and work as a team. Many diseases can be prevented and reversed if they are caught early.
This goes hand in hand with educating yourself. Awareness is the only way you can work with a doctor to improve your lifestyle and prevent disease. Stress, a poor diet, and allowing yourself to get ill, will all have a negative effect on your health, and reduce your longevity. Patient empowerment is the key to a long, healthy life.
The first stage of aging is typically the loss of muscle and gaining fat. This does not need to happen according to the University of Arkansas for Medical Science. They believe that if we control our metabolic rate we can improve our physique. The more lean body tissue a body has, the higher it’s metabolic rate is.
Strength training increase the metabolic rate by 30 — 50 calories a day. A person can gain 3 pounds of muscle and boost their metabolic rate by 7 per cent, in only three months, according to the UA report.
Researchers at the Australian Institute of Sport found that athletes who consumed a small intake of caffeine before exercise could continue for up to 30 minutes longer than those who had not consumed it. The caffeine also enabled the athletes to increase the amount of weight lost during physical activity. It also produced a 3.5% increase in exercise capacity.
The team suggests that substances in caffeine trigger muscles to use fat to fuel exercise instead of using the usual stores of carbohydrates. Other studies have found that caffeine taken during exercise can delay the onset of fatigue by up to 60%. (Intakes tested have typically been modest, ie 6-8 ounces of cola or coffee.) People who drink 6-8 ounces of coffee before exercise may be able to exercise 30 minutes longer, according to the “Caffeine boosts athletes’ stamina,” Nutraingredients.com, Aug. 5, 2003. The report suggests that caffeine can trigger a-8 substance in muscles to burn fat instead of carbohydrates.
These studies are confirmed by a Norwegian study of 227,000 people that suggests that exercise may help avoid a premature death. Working out for just 1/2 hour a day can increase your chances of reaching age 90 by up to 31 per cent.
Exercise works in tandem with a healthy diet, maintaining a positive state of mind, an active social life, and preventing disease to help people not only live longer, but enjoy a high quality of life well into their retirement.
