Culture, The Exciting Life Of A Bar Tender

by Gabriel Adams

Bar tending is a great job filled with excitement and fun. Since a bar tender is employed to work at places such as taverns or at celebrations, there is almost always something fun going on while at work. Therefore, there is never a dull moment when working as a bartender.

At the same time, being a bartender does involve a few responsibilities. For example, a bartender must be aware of the patrons and take steps to keep problems for developing. Since patrons are drinking, they can sometimes lose some of their judgment, which can potentially lead to problems. As a bartender, it is important to remain aware of these potential problems and to take steps to prevent them from occurring.

Bar tenders are also being increasingly called upon to monitor the drinking of patrons. If the bar tender believes the patron is becoming too inebriated, some feel it is the bar tender’s responsibility to stop serving alcohol to that person. In fact, some lawsuits have been filed in this regard and courts have found bar tenders guilty for continuing to serve alcohol to those that were obviously very drunk.

Although bar tending does have its responsibilities, most bar tenders still find the work to be very rewarding. People watching is a favorite pastime of bar tenders and being a bar tender is a great way to meet new people. In addition, a good bar tender can potentially make quite a bit of money when it comes to tips.

A person that is responsible enough to “cut off” patrons and to monitor their activities while still having good time will work out perfectly as a bar tender. To make this happen, he or she will need to go to bar tending school in order to learn how to mix drinks properly and how to interact with customers in an appropriate fashion.
