Culture, Exploring Bar Tending Career Options

by Gabriel Adams

Bar tending is a fun job that can be performed in a number of locations. Although most people think of bar tenders as those that work at taverns, there are a number of other fun places where a bar tender may be employed.

Some bar tenders choose to essentially be traveling bar tenders. For these bar tenders, they actually travel from venue to venue in order to serve alcohol. For example, a bar tender may tend bar for weddings at different venues rather than have a bar where he or she permanently works.

Some bar tenders may also work with travel lines, such as on cruise ships. For these bar tenders, one of the extra perks of the job is getting to travel to exotic locations. Since passengers do not remain on board and drink while the ship is docked, these bar tenders can actually enjoy a free trip to a number of different locations while also getting paid for their work! Bar tenders may also be employed at hotels, restaurants, or anywhere else that alcohol is served on a regular basis. Even some theme parks may employ someone as a bar tender.

In addition to being employed by someone to do bar tending, a bar tender may also decide to open his or her own tavern. In this case, the bar tender is the owner and the operator and can decide to run the tavern in the matter that he or she sees fit. After completing bar tending school, there are numerous different options available to the bar tender. The trick is finding the one that is best suited to the person’s likes and he or she will likely be happily employed for many years to come. At the same time, one of the great things about this business is the fact that a bar tender with a great reputation can easily pick up and move to another place of employment if he or she likes.
